Even if you can’t import songs from other Guitar Hero games, you can still do so. 70 songs from Guitar Hero 5 and 61 songs from Band Hero can be imported into the game.
You can access all the original tracks from every guitar hero/rock band game along with thousands of fan made tracks from every genre you could think of and more. This is the way. If you can find a compatible guitar and have a computer from the last 10-15 years, Clone Hero is the way to go. There are some advantages to choosing Xbox 360 over Wii. Xbox 360 has GH2 (not sure if that matters to you). Xbox 360 has much better controller cross-compatibility between GH and RB games.

Normally Green maps to A/X, Red is B/O, Yellow Y/T, and so on. I've no idea what the GH Live guitars map to, but there's only so many buttons that they can map to. Black 1 is A/X, black 2 is B/Circle, black 3 is Y/Triangle, white 1 is X/Square, white 2 and 3 don't seem to be mapped to anything. They could be mapped to the thumbsticks.
